Lawmakers
and Jewish groups have condemned neo-Nazis in the German state of
Saxony for exploiting the murder of a young girl to boost their
popularity by holding vigils and demanding the death penalty for
pedophiles.

The murder of an 8-year-old girl, whose body was found by a pond
four days after she went missing from Leipzig, has shocked many Germans
and the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) has seized on public
anger.

It is part of a strategy to address populist issues, such as child abuse and immigration, to widen their appeal, say experts.

Described by Germany's Office for the Protection of the Constitution
as racist, anti-Semitic, revisionist and inspired by Hitler's Nazis,
the NPD has seats in two state assemblies, and made strong gains in
council elections in Saxony in June.

This week about 160 right-wing activists marched through the eastern
city of Leipzig to commemorate the murdered girl, said police, who are
still investigating the crime.

Wearing dark clothes, baseball hats and dark glasses, the
demonstrators carried banners with slogans such as "Death penalty for
child abusers," and "No future without us, National Socialism Now!"
alongside pictures of young children.

Study: Holocaust trauma affects grandchildren of survivors
By Ofri Ilani, Haaretz Correspondent

More than 60 years after the Holocaust, the trauma of Nazi persecution is still affecting survivors' grandchildren, a recent study by a researcher from the University of Haifa suggests.

The study on the long-term effects of extreme war-related trauma on the second and the third generation of Holocaust survivors involved 88 middle-class families. According to the study, young men and women born in Israel 40 years after WWII suffer greater emotional difficulties than the general population. Advertisement

Dr. Miri Scharf found in her research - which was recently published in the scientific U.S. periodical Development and Psychopathology - that these emotional difficulties often manifest themselves when third-generation 18- and 17-year-olds enter the Israel Defense Forces.

Scharf, herself the daughter of Holocaust survivors, says she was attracted to the subject following her own experience. "My father had to live on the run, and moved time and again between 17 different hideouts," she told Haaretz. "My mother also roamed in different areas, trying to survive. Several of my family members perished in the Holocaust, and my father carried with him the terror of living in hiding."

According to Scharf, she became aware of the effects of living with third-generation emotional baggage from the Holocaust when she was working with students whose grandparents were survivors. "Some of them spoke of having a hard time trusting, of their fear of getting screwed over," she says. "This comes from a terrible air of suspiciousness at home."

In her research, Scharf strove to identify the differences in the functioning of adults whose parents had survived the Holocaust, compared with that of another group. Another objective was to characterize the psychosocial functioning of adolescent grandchildren.

Degree of presence of Holocaust in the family was examined in families in which both parents were survivors, in families where either mother or father was a survivor and families where neither parent was a survivor.

Mothers' Holocaust background was associated with higher levels of psychological distress, and adolescents in families where both parents were survivors perceived their mothers as less accepting and less encouraging of independence. The teenagers reported less positive self-perceptions than their counterparts.

"When only one parent is a survivor, the kids do fine, " Scharf noted. "The problems begin when their homes have too many dark shadows in them."

The results of the study, says Scharf, show that it is recommended for clinicians to develop awareness of the possible traces of trauma in the second and the third generation to better treat that section of the population.

Mexican soldiers and civilian smugglers had an armed standoff with nearly 30 U.S. law enforcement officials on the Rio Grande in Texas Monday afternoon, according to Texas police and the FBI.

Mexican military Humvees were towing what appeared to be thousands of pounds of marijuana across the border into the United States, said Chief Deputy Mike Doyal, of the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department.

Mexican Army troops had several mounted machine guns on the ground more than 200 yards inside the U.S. border -- near Neely's Crossing, about 50 miles east of El Paso -- when Border Patrol agents called for backup. Hudspeth County deputies and Texas Highway patrol officers arrived shortly afterward, Doyal said.

"It's been so bred into everyone not to start an international incident with Mexico that it's been going on for years," Doyal said. "When you're up against mounted machine guns, what can you do? Who wants to pull the trigger first? Certainly not us."

An FBI spokeswoman confirmed the incident happened at 2:15 p.m. Pacific
Time."Bad guys in three vehicles ended up on the border," said Andrea Simmons, a spokeswoman with the FBI's El Paso office. "People with Humvees, who appeared to be with the Mexican Army, were involved with the three vehicles in getting them back across."

Simmons said the FBI was not involved and referred inquiries to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ICE did not return calls seeking comment.

Doyal said deputies captured one vehicle in the incident, a Cadillac Escalade reportedly stolen from El Paso, and found 1,477 pounds of marijuana inside. The Mexican soldiers set fire to one of the Humvees stuck in the river, he said.

Doyal's deputies faced a similar incident on Nov. 17, when agents from the Fort Hancock border patrol station in Texas called the sheriff's department for backup after confronting more than six fully armed men dressed in Mexican military uniforms. The men -- who were carrying machine
guns and driving military vehicles -- were trying to bring more than three tons of marijuana across the Rio Grande, Doyal said.

Doyal said such incidents are common at Neely's Crossing, which is near Fort Hancock, Texas, and across from the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

"It happens quite often here," he said.

Deputies and border patrol agents are not equipped for combat, he added.

"Our government has to do something," he said. "It's not the immigrants coming over for jobs we're worried about. It's the smugglers, Mexican military and the national threat to our borders that we're worried about."

Citing a Jan. 15 story in the Daily Bulletin, Reps. David Dreier, R-Glendora, and Duncan Hunter, R-San Diego, last week asked the House Judiciary Committee, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, the House Homeland Security Committee and the House International Relations Committee to investigate the incursions. The story focused on a
Department of Homeland Security document reporting 216 incursions by Mexican soldiers during the past 10 years and a map with the seal of the president's Office of National Drug Control Policy, both of which were given to the newspaper.

Requests by Dreier, chairman of the House Rules Committee, and Hunter were made in jointly signed letters.

On Wednesday, Chertoff played down the reports of border incursions by the Mexican military. He suggested many of the incursions could have been mistakes, blaming bad navigation by military personnel or attributing the incursions to criminals dressed in military garb.

Mexican officials last week denied any incursions made by their military.

But border agents interviewed over the past year have discussed confrontations those they believe to be Mexican military personnel.

"We're sitting ducks," said a border agent speaking on condition of anonymity. "The government has our hands tied."

DETROIT (AP) - An assistant US attorney from Florida was arrested in an Internet sting operation after flying to Michigan to have sex with a 5-year-old girl, authorities said Monday.

John D.R. Atchison, 53, was arrested Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after several weeks of Internet conversations between the prosecutor and a detective posing as the mother of a 5-year-old girl, authorities say.

"There wasn't much reaction from him at all," Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said. Atchison was cooperative with authorities, he said.

He was charged with using interstate communication to entice a minor to have sexual contact and traveling across state lines with the intent of engaging in illicit sexual contact. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison.

According to court records, Atchison initiated an online chat Aug. 29 with an undercover officer posing as a mother interested in letting men have sex with her daughter.

At one point, Atchison said: "I'm always gentle and loving; not to worry; no damage ever; no rough stuff ever ever," according to an affidavit filed in court.

Atchison, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., is a prosecutor for the U.S. attorney's office for northern Florida, based in Tallahassee. He requested a court-appointed lawyer at his hearing Monday.

Secretary of State Rice has acknowledged a communique from Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Levni which requests that all foreign aid payments and loans from the United States be made in Euros rather than in Dollars. Foreign Minister Levni cited the rapidly declining dollar and it's disfavor as a world currency as reasons for the request.

"In the spirit of Yom Kippur, the United States will not hold Israel to any agreements obligating them to accept Dollars as payment for their foreigh aid. We will translate our obligations into Euros or whatever currency that best fits Israel's needs" Secretary RIce said in the Friday, Sept 21 announcement.

"We need to place our Israeli obligations at the top of our national prioriy list. Israel should not suffer any inconvenience due to currency fluctuations" said Rice before heading off to Camp David.

Vass — An 11-year-old girl who was murdered at her Moore County home Friday died of several gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy report.

Emily Elizabeth Haddock stayed home from school sick with strep throat and was by herself when someone broke into her home at 6988 Marks Road, outside of Vass, authorities said.

Authorities said they believe it was a break-in gone wrong.

A few hours before Emily was shot with a small caliber gun, police say someone was spotted trying to break into John Lyczkowski's house about a mile up the road. The person was trying to kick in the door and pry open the window with a screwdriver, officials said.

Lyczkowski said he and his family couldn't believe it when they heard what happened to Emily.

“It was overwhelming to me and my wife. We were both hurt, because an innocent child was involved,” he said.

Police are investigating whether the two cases are connected. Officials released a description of a person of interest in the case. They're looking for a black man, about 18 to 26 years old, between 5’8” and 6’ foot tall, with a dark complexion and a slim build.

Emily’s body was discovered Friday when her grandfather stopped by the house at about 1:30 p.m. to check on her. He noticed the door had been forced open, according to officials. He found her body on the floor and called 911.

Authorities described the inside of the house as "a brutal scene."

Those who knew Emily described her as a “ball of sunshine” who loved signing along to the radio.

“Emily was a great kid, a great kid … fun to be around, loving and very playful,” said Richard Sibbett, Emily’s cousin. “The family is confused right now about why this would happen.”

A flower memorial now rests in front of Emily's house. Deputies are using dogs as they continue their search to find any clues along Marks Road.

“This is a very brutal murder. The fact that it involved an 11-year-old child who’s completely defenseless, it’s just a terrible situation,” said Chief Deputy Neil Godfrey with the Moore County Sheriff’s Department

Gay couple left free to abuse boys - because social workers feared being branded homophobic

On 5th September 2007 A homosexual foster couple were left free to sexually abuse vulnerable boys in their care because social workers feared being accused of discrimination if they investigated complaints, an inquiry concluded yesterday.

Craig Faunch and Ian Wathey were one of the first homosexual couples in the country to be officially approved as foster parents.

They looked after 18 children in only 15 months.

With no previous convictions, they came across as respectable men who simply wanted to help boys with a variety of problems.

In reality, they were paedophiles, who repeatedly abused the children in their care.

Even when the mother of two of the children reported her suspicions to the council, officials accepted the men's explanations and did nothing.

Instead of banning children from staying with Faunch and Wathey, they sent youngsters with more serious problems to them. Between them, the couple abused four boys aged between eight and 14.

In a scathing report published yesterday, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council was condemned for treating the men as "trophy carers".

The children's charity Kidscape said those in charge of overseeing the safety of children in the care of Faunch and Wathey had allowed political correctness to override common sense.

The report, following an independent review of the case, said: "One manager described the couple as 'trophy carers' which led to 'slack arrangements' over placement.

"Another said that by virtue of their sexuality they had a 'badge' which made things less questionable.

"The sexual orientation of the men was a significant cause of people not 'thinking the unthinkable'.

"It was clear that a number of staff were afraid of being thought homophobic.

"The fear of being discriminatory led them to fail to discriminate between the appropriate and the abusive."

The report also accused the council of failing to carry out proper assessments before and after the children were placed with Faunch and Wathey.

"Issues arose in the first longer-term placement of two children, including potential indicators of child sexual abuse, which were inadequately investigated, understood or acted upon," it said.

"More children were then placed with Faunch and Wathey, some successfully, some with concerns which were again inadequately investigated, understood or acted upon.

"The practice of some social workers in this case was deficient."

The report's authors, led by former Surrey social services chief Brian Parrott, said they could not be sure that Faunch and Wathey were "predatory paedophiles" who became foster carers in order to have access to children.

Men Sentenced for Involvement in Hate Crime

Two men convicted of conspiring to threaten and intimidate "nonwhites" in Salt Lake City were sentenced today.

One of the convicted men, Shaun Walker, is a former national leader of a white supremacist group called the National Alliance.

In April, a jury convicted Shaun Walker, Travis Massey and Eric Egbert of federal hate crimes.

The case revolved around two separate incidents in 2002 and 2003 in which a Hispanic bartender and a Native American bar patron were beaten and kicked outside the bars O-Shucks and Port O-Call by a group of people, including the three defendants, who were shouting racial epithets.

This afternoon Judge Lee Benson called the incidents "ugly" and said he believed Walker "was in charge." He sentenced him to more than seven years in prison. U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman said, "This sentence, 87 months for Mr. Walker, is going to be plenty of time for him to think about his involvement in crimes against individuals based on the color of their skin or their religious beliefs."

In court, Walker declined an opportunity to make a statement to the judge before sentencing.

In his sentencing, Eric Egbert did not express remorse over his role in the attacks, but he says he's changed. The judge found Egbert was not a major player in the events, but was a participant, and sentenced him to three and a half year in prison.

The third man, Travis Massey, was not sentenced today. He requested and was granted permission to replace the attorney who has been representing him with a new one. No date has been set for his sentencing.

Africa: Children high on sewage

At the Lusaka sewage ponds, two
teenage boys plunge their hands into the dark brown sludge, gathering
up fistfuls and stuffing it into small plastic bottles. They tap the
bottles on the ground, taking care to leave enough room for methane to
form at the top. A sour smell rises in the hot sun, but the boys seem
oblivious to the stench and the foul nature of their task.

They
are manufacturing "Jenkem", a disgusting, noxious mixture made from
fermented sewage. It is cheap, potent and very popular among the
thousands of street-children in Lusaka. When they cannot afford glue or
are too scared to steal petrol, these youngsters turn to Jenkem as a
way of getting high.

"It lasts about an hour", says one user, 16-year-old Luke Mpande, who prefers Jenkem to other substances.

"With glue, I just hear voices
in my head. But with Jenkem, I see visions. I see my mother who is dead
and I forget about the problems in my life."

Symptom of poverty

Sniffing sewage is a symptom of
the desperate plight of Zambia's street-children. There are thought to
be some 75,000 in the country as a whole - a number that has doubled in
the past eight years.

With
the Aids epidemic affecting an estimated one in four adults in urban
areas, and the government's harsh privatisation policies throwing
thousands out of work, it is the children who have suffered the most.

Sikwanda Makono is an education
specialist at the Ministry of Health. "Now that the economy is going
down, we see more and more of our younger boys going into the streets.

"And girls too. If you drive around at night, you see very young girls looking for men, to merely get something to survive."

Abandoned

The
children can also no longer rely on the extended family, once the
backbone of African life. This traditional safety net is now on the
verge of collapse.

Children are sent out onto the
streets to earn a living, or treated cruelly by relatives already
struggling to support their own families, or simply abandoned by
parents, who cannot afford to feed and clothe them.

Victor Chinyama of the United
Nations Children's Fund in Lusaka says it is imperative that the
Zambian government gets to grips with this problem.

"So far, one doesn't get the
feeling that this has been recognised as priority, or as a problem that
needs to be nipped in the bud," he says.

"This problem is on the rise and the sooner it is dealt with, the better."

Temporary respite

Substance-abuse offers a temporary respite in an otherwise harsh world.

Nobody knows exactly where the
idea for making Jenkem came from, but it has been used by
street-children in Lusaka for at least two years. Nason Banda of the
Drug Enforcement Agency is not proud when he says that it is unique to
Zambia. He shudders when he sees the boys at the sewage ponds,
scavenging for faecal matter to make Jenkem.

"It's unimaginable" he says. "It
hits right at the heart to see a human being coming down a level, to be
able to dip his hand into a sewage pond, picking out the material and
not caring about anything but the feeling of getting high."

ANGELES—An aerospace engineer who was arrested in Canada after someone
recognized him from the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list pleaded guilty
Friday to one count of producing child pornography.

Goldberg, 61, of Long Beach faces up to 20 years in federal prison when
he is sentenced Nov. 19, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Goldberg
had been on the run for about six years before he was arrested in May
at a Montreal address provided by a tipster who recognized him from the
FBI's Web site.

Authorities contend Goldberg molested at least
three girls younger than 10 in his home. Images involving the girls
were later found on his computer, the FBI alleged.

Authorities claimed he lured girls to his home and gained their trust by allowing them to play with his pets and computers.

Goldberg's attorney, Benjamin Wasserman, said his client was in the process of surrendering when he was arrested in Canada.

"I
think he was tired of being out of the country, and he wanted to bring
some closure to this," Wasserman said. "He wanted to accept
responsibility, and he has done that. He is very sorry."

Yeah Im sure his heart is just breaking for those little girls he raped!

Within hours after The Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the Turkish government went on the offensive and demanded the Israeli government to “deliver”American Jewish organizations and to ensure that the U.S. Congress does not pass a resolution characterizing as genocide the massacre of Armenians during World War I, the Armenian National Committee of Canada reports.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Turkey’s ambassador to Israel Namik Tan said: “Israel should not let the [U.S.] Jewish community change its position. This is our expectation and this is highly important, highly important. On some issues there is no such thing as ‘Israel cannot deliver.’” Tan said that ADL’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide was one of those issues.

Prof. Jack Nusan Porter, treasurer of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) and author of “The Genocidal Mind” and “Facing History and Holocaust” called Turkey’s pressure on Israel “blackmail.”

Aris Babikian, executive director of the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) said: “We hope that the Israeli government, as a sovereign state, and Jewish organizations will not yield to the Turkish Government blackmail and the use of the Jewish community of Turkey as political hostage. Such immoral behavior by a government which is renowned for the oppression of its minorities (Armenians, Greeks, Jews, Assyrians, Kurds) and their basic human and civil rights should not be tolerated by the civilized world.”

“A fascist and anti-Semitic state which allowed “Mein Kampf” and “The Protocols of Elders of Zion” to become best-sellers in Turkey and brought the wealth tax on Jews and other minorities, should not enjoy the support and alliance of Israel and the Jewish people,” added Babikian.

The ANCC director expressed the Canadian-Armenian community’s and the ANCC’s gratitude to Jewish organizations and individuals who have “shown moral and ethical courage by standing up for truth and justice.”

Babikian said that he was certain “Armenians and Jews, who have suffered so much, would not allow the Turkish government’s or any individuals misguided and shortsighted decisions to derail us form our joint calling to fight Armenian Genocide or Holocaust denial.”

The current upheaval came to light after the town council of Watertown voted unanimously to cut its ties with the Anti-Defamation League and its program “No Place for Hate” for the ADL’s lobbying efforts on behalf of the Turkish government to block the passage of the United States House of Representatives and Senate resolutions to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Foxman has justified his organization’s position in a statement saying: "As long as ADL is an organization committed first to the safety and security of the Jewish people, we cannot in good conscience ignore the well-being of 20,000 Jews in Turkey."

The controversy turned into an international crisis and caused turmoil in human rights organizations and in Jewish communities. Twelve Boston-area Jewish organizations issued a joint statement appealing to Jews to “never forget the Armenian Genocide and maintain our guard against those who deny its occurrence.”

Seeing that his position is untenable on August 24 Foxman issued a carefully crafted statement modifying the ADL position. “On reflection, we have come to share the assessment of former Ambassador Henry Morgenthau, Sr., that the consequences of the painful events of 1915-1918 were indeed tantamount to genocide,” the statement read.

The two sales are being referred to by market traders as "bin Laden trades" because only an event on the scale of 9-11 could make these short-sell options valuable.

There are 65,000 contracts @ $750.00 for the SPX 700 calls for open interest. That controls 6.5 million shares at $750 = $4.5 Billion. Not a single trade. But quite a bit of $$ on a contract that is 700 points away from current value. No one would buy that deep "in the money" calls. No reason to. So if they were sold looks like someone betting on massive dislocation. Lots of very strange option activity that I haven't seen before.

The entity or individual offering these sales can only make money if the market drops 30%-50% within the next four weeks. If the market does not drop, the entity or individual involved stands to lose over $1 billion just for engaging in these contracts!

Clearly, someone knows something big is going to happen BEFORE the options expire on Sept. 21.

THEORIES:

The following theories are being discussed widely within the stock and options markets today regarding the enormous and very unusual activity reported above and two stories below. Those theories are:

1) A massive terrorist attack is going to take place before Sept. 21 to tank the markets, OR;

2) China, reeling over losing $10 Billion in bad loans to the sub-prime mortgage collapse presently taking place, is going to dump US currency and tank all of Capitalism with a Communist financial revolution. Either scenario is bad and the clock is ticking. The drop-dead date of these contracts is September 21. Whatever is going to happen MUST take place between now and then or the folks involved in these contracts will lose over $1 billion for having engaged in this activity.

"$1.78 Billion Bet that Stock Markets will crash by third week in September Anonymous Stock Trader Sells 10K Contracts on EVERY S&P/Y "Strike" Shorts Stocks "in the money" effectively selling all his SPY holdings for cash up front without pressuring the market downward.

This is an enormous and dangerous stock option activity. If it goes right, the guy makes about $2 Billion. If he's wrong, his out of pocket costs for buying these options will exceed $700 Million!!! The entity who sold these contracts can only make money if the stock market totally crashes by the third week in September.

Bear in mind that the last time anyone conducted such large and unusual stock option trades (like this one) was in the weeks before the attacks of September 11.

Back then, they bought huge numbers of PUTS on airline stocks in the same airlines whose planes were involved in the September 11 attacks.

Despite knowing who made these trades, the Securities and Exchange Commission NEVER revealed who made the unusual trades and no one was ever publicly identified as being responsible for the trades which made upwards of $50 million when the attacks happened.

The fact that this latest activity by a single entity gambles on a complete collapse of the entire market by the third week in September, seems to indicate someone knows something really huge is in the works and they intend to profit almost $2 Billion within the next four weeks from whatever happens! This is really worrisome."
